5 Stars cleaned my pond up very well
This is a good filter the only problem is the ad said it had a 18 foot cord when it's more like 10 feet.

5 Stars Keeps on pumpin'
We have 2 of these filter/pumps - one rated at 500 gph and one rated at 250 gph. We use the smaller one for the waterfall in our pond and the larger pump is used as an aerator, water cleaner, etc. They come with 2 sections of tubing for extra height should it be needed and 2 fountain heads. We run the larger pump without a head on it for maximum flow.

One minor problem is that if you don't weight the thing down, it will eventually float. That problem is solved (as per the instructions) by taking the filter section apart and putting in some small stones. We used some flat stones in each of the 4 corners of the filter box and have not had a problem.

The filter box is easy to unhook from the pump and the filter media are easy to clean out and are reusable. We just hose the filters off. You can leave the pump in the water while you're working on the filter box. When you unhook the filter box from the pump, be sure to unplug the pump. That way there's no problem with fish getting sucked into the intake. We've never even had a close call, but if you have small fish and they get too close to the intake, they might get sucked in.

We run these filter/pumps 24/7 and plan to run the larger one all winter.

UPDATE: June 18, 2009 - see my review on a smaller version of this pump Pondmaster 02215 500 GPH Pond Pump. We are buying another set of filter media as the current sets are finally wearing out. We run both pumps 24/7/365 with no problems.

This system has been a perfect fit for my small backyard pond. The installation process could not have been easier. Once in place, the pump and filter have kept the water moving and clear. This product DOES NOT pump the quoted water. It barely trickles on all the settings.

I almost went with the 75 GPH version because of the price, but I'm really glad I got the 130. It's worth the extra dollars.

I'm going to use this one to build a water activity table for my 1 and 5 year old children. The 75 GPH would have been a slow trickle.

The pump has a nice long cord (I think it's about 10'!) and it pumps to the height it specifies. At max height, you do get just a trickle, though. At about 1/2 height it's a nice flow. I'm thinking of replacing the pump that came with one of our outdoor fountains with this beauty. Both for the flow rate, and the really long cord.

When I first installed the pump, it would not pump water more than two feet or so. I discovered a kink in the hose and bought a stiffer hose and now It goes over three feet and i had to turn it down. I'm very pleased with the new pump.

1 Star Stopped functioning within 24 hrs
This filter seemed like a good design at first glance. However, after running for only about 24 hrs it stopped working and we were unable to get it to start again. Therefore, it isn't worth buying at any price.

5 Stars Dependable
We have two of these. One is 250 gph and one is 500 gph. They've both been running 24/7 for over a year and we haven't had any trouble with either one of them. The filters are easy to get out and clean and replacement filter media is readily available and inexpensive. Just make sure everything is properly and securely reconnected if you take them apart so baby fish won't get sucked in. We've never had a problem getting the hose reconnected or putting the thing back together.

We haven't noticed that our electric bill in any worse because of these.

Our pond is approximately 300 gals with goldfish and plants. We loosely cover the pond in the winter with greenhouse plastic (using a dome-shaped frame made of PVC sprinkler pipe) so the pumps can continue to run and provide aeration for the fish all year long.

UPDATE: June 18, 2009 - both pumps are still going strong. I am currently buying new sets of filter media as the original filters have finally started to fall apart -- although they are still usable, they are just getting shaggy looking and I'm not sure how much longer they will really be effective. We have continued to run both pumps 24/7/365.

Use the Ring Jet alone or add one of the other Cal fountain heads to the center. Each of the 21 nozzles can be individually directed giving control over final display. Intake and center discharge are 1/2inch FPT. Raise the ring by using supporting legs made from sections of 1/2inch PVC (not included). 5 Stars keep in milk crate
The intake tends to clog with this pump. When you have it in your pond, keep it in a milk crate with wire mesh around it to allow water to pass but not weeds, bugs, and other small objects that can severly hinder its operation

Shipment was prompt and as specified. As to the pump, it works fine so far, but is not the most powerful. I have a 5 foot high waterfall with a pond that is about 6 X 4 feet and about a foot deep. I would have bought a pump that is at least twice as powerful. I did write the vendor to see if I could make an exchange for another model, but they never replied.

5 Stars Beckett Co. great!
My smaller pond pump failed after 5 years, so I purchased the next larger size Beckett pump (325 gals/medium ponds). Delivery through Amazon was very prompt, but the pump was defective. I contacted the Beckett company and they promptly shipped a new pump. Their customer service was great to work with! The new pump is in the garden pond and working quite well.

3 Stars 20-foot power cord; 2-year manufacturer warranty
Take care if you are buying this pump because it has a 20 Foot cord. I just received a replacement from Beckett because my pump had failed after 10 months. The replacement has a 16 foot cord. According to a rather unhelpful CSR at Beckett, they no longer make any pumps with 20 foot cords. After pointing out that I had a two year warranty on a pump with a 20 foot cord, I was informed that the warranty covers the pump not the length of the cord!

Amazon is showing a cord length of 20', and according to Beckett they have either not updated their page or they are selling old stock.

I needed a new pump for a garden pond renovation...one that would produce a reasonable flow at about 4 feet of static head. This 400 gph pump produces about 200 gph at that head, fitting my needs. I had used Beckett pumps before and was really pleased with their performance. This was a great buy.

This fountain arrived just as pictured. Plug it in adjust the lily petals and off it goes. It does make a lovely sound ... it does not splash out of the bowl and is a good value for the money.
